Haute for the Holidays!

Important announcement! I have joined . . . the GLITTERATI!

Bahaha, kidding. But it’s definitely THAT time! You know . . . winter holidays, New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, or just chillin’ around your house vacuuming up the remnants of 2018’s crushed hopes and dreams . . .

No? Just me?

Anyway, the bottom line is that it’s a time to be totally extra and wear a crap ton of sparkles while feeling totally OK about it!

I haven’t made any official plans for New Year’s Eve, but I figured that since I’m launching this blog right around the holidays, it would be the perfect time to talk about wearing ALL THE SHINY THINGS!

Even if I end up on my couch with a glass of wine, binging Netflix, and stuffing my face with a burrito, I’ll still be lounging around in something sparkly.

The Rule of One

Now, don’t get me wrong. I LOVE the idea of going all out with sparkles in every piece of my outfit, but this post is about the more practical side of adding that shine. Namely, my RULE OF ONE.

I apply the Rule of One to just about any “extra” or “stand-out” pieces I own. What the rule means is when I wear one particularly eye-catching item, I tone down the rest of my outfit so the special piece can do the talking.

First piece: A black, sequined jacket by Kardashian Kollection. Can I just say that this jacket was only $3.00 at a thrift store?! Originally, it would be close to $100. What a steal!

I love that it’s cropped, but not too tight around the middle. It can be worn with anything, from a little black dress to a pair of skinny jeans and a colorful top. Perfect for New Year’s!

I enjoy pairing at least one piece of statement jewelry with my looks, but if the sequins already seem like enough for you, that works too!

Second piece: A charcoal sequined midi dress with mesh detailing. This dress was $16.99 at Ross! Can you tell I LOVE bargain shopping?

I paired it with a bright red blazer (kind of looks orange-y in the pictures), black tights, and black patent leather pumps. A sparkly dress with a solid-colored jacket on top is a great choice for a holiday party, because it keeps you warm and tones down an otherwise flashy outfit!

Third piece: Sparkly turtleneck sweater from Express. This one was also a steal for $3.99, thrifted locally!

Turtlenecks are sometimes considered frumpy and constricting, but for me they’re a wardrobe staple. I believe they add class to any outfit, and a turtleneck on top paired with a more daring bottom (like this faux leather midi skirt) makes for a great holiday combo!

Bonus: These gloves are smartphone-friendly! They’re available here.
